On March 1, 2024, the NextOcean Showcase event, hosted by the AIR Centre and Colab+Atlantic at TERINOV – Science Technology Park in Terceira, Azores, convened local stakeholders to present cutting-edge advancements and forthcoming strategies for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
Representing OCEANIDS, our esteemed partner Natalia Ospina-Alvarez from the AIR Centre—Atlantic International Research Centre participated in the demonstration in Terceira, Azores. This pivotal event spotlighted state-of-the-art capabilities and future service roadmaps for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, harnessing Earth Observation (EO) tools to augment decision-making processes.
With simultaneous gatherings across Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Greece, along with virtual attendance options, the event highlighted the paramount importance of local collaboration and innovation in safeguarding marine ecosystems while bolstering the livelihoods of fishing communities. Participants engaged in interactive exercises and live demonstrations to refine tailored services, showcasing advanced technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency, profitability, and environmental stewardship. The event laid the groundwork for a more integrated and cohesive global approach to fisheries and aquaculture management by fostering collaboration among scientists, policymakers, industry leaders, and local stakeholders.
